This maintenance release provides the following improvements and corrections to the previous version, 1.1a: - Improved palette support. The new release of MSVIDEO.DLL and the Cinepak and Indeo codecs prevent Video for Windows from having to dither 24-bit videos twice during playback. - Display Control Interface (DCI) support. DCI allows Video for Windows to provide faster and smoother playback on video cards that use the S3, Cirrus Logic, or any one of several other chip sets. Video for Windows now also supports all DCI-enabled video cards. Furthermore, the performance of stretched and clipped videos is much improved for all video cards. - Better overall performance. The improvements implemented in version 1.1a are listed in the section "Previous Improvements in Version 1.1a" on page 2 of this Application Note. Specific Files Updated in Version 1.1d -------------------------------------- The following files were changed in version 1.1d: Filename Description -------- ----------- AVICAP.DLL Added application pre-roll and post-roll support DCISVGA.DRV DCI provider for S3 and Cirrus Logic video cards DVA.386 Added DCI support ICCVID.DRV Cinepak codec: added palette support IMAADPCM.ACM IMA ADPCM codec: change in the compression algorithm to fully meet the official format specifications IR32.DLL Indeo codec: updated to version 3.2, added palette support MSVIDEO.DLL Added palette and DCI support MSVIDEO.NT Updated Microsoft Windows NT(TM) version 3.5 to support 16-bit capture OLE2DISP.DLL Updated to current release of OLE OLE2NLS.DLL Updated to current release of OLE SETUP.INF Updated to new file sizes, versions, and dates SETUP.MST Updated for new files included with Video for Windows, version 1.1d STDOLE.TLB OLE file missing from original Video for Windows run- time edition TYPELIB.DLL Updated to current release of OLE Previous Improvements in Version 1.1a ------------------------------------- Maintenance release 1.1a provided the following improvements and corrections to version 1.0: - Simultaneous playback of two .AVI files was improved. - Playback of loosely interleaved or noninterleaved files with NetWare(R) Video was improved. - The compression algorithm was changed to fully meet the official Interactive Multimedia Association's adaptive-differential-pulse- code-modulation (ADPCM) format specifications. - Performance of video playback was improved, which corrected a problem that caused shaky playback. - The general protection (GP) fault problem was corrected. This problem occurred when you clicked embedded Video 1.1 for Windows media objects in OLE 2.0 clients. - A slight memory leak that occurred with embedded objects was corrected. NOTE: All of the above improvements are also included in version 1.1d. To Install the Run-time Edition of Video 1.1d for Windows --------------------------------------------------------- 1. Insert the enclosed WV1019 disk in the appropriate floppy disk drive. 2. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu and type :\setup where is the floppy disk drive containing the WV1019 disk. Press ENTER. The Setup program will install the run-time edition of Video 1.1d for Windows.
